Item Description
Great love stories thrive on sacrifice. Throughout The Twilight Saga (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse), Stephenie Meyer has emulated great love stories--Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights--with the fated, yet perpetually doomed love of Bella (the human girl) and Edward (the vampire who feeds on animals instead of humans). In Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final installment in the series, Bella’s story plays out in some unexpected ways. The ongoing conflicts that made this series so compelling--a human girl in love with a vampire, a werewolf in love with a human girl, the generations-long feud between werewolves and vampires--resolve pretty quickly, apparently so that Meyer could focus on Bella’s latest opportunity for self-sacrifice: giving her life for someone she loves even more than Edward. How close she comes to actually making that sacrifice is questionable, which is a big shift from the earlier books. Even though you knew Bella would make it through somehow, the threats to her life, and to her relationship with Edward, had previously always felt real. It’s as if Meyer was afraid of hurting her characters too much, which is unfortunate, because the pain Bella suffered at losing Edward in New Moon, and the pain Jacob suffered at losing Bella again and again, are the fire and the heart that drive the whole series. Diehard fans will stick with Bella, Edward, and Jacob for as many twists and turns as possible, but after most of the characters get what they want with little sacrifice, some readers may have a harder time caring what happens next. My favorite!

This by far has been my favorite of the series. It is such easy reading - I'll sit down to read and before I know it, 100 pages are gone. Once I realized I only had bout 1/2" left to the book, I stopped my self from reading it so fast and made sure I had good quality reading time... not while the kids were running around me outside screaming and playing dinosaur.
It ended perfect! When I finished and turned the lamp off, I just had to cuddle up next to my loudly snoring husband to tell him I loved him. I know, gooey... but Edward & Bella brought it out in me!
What a mish mash let down

I first picked up this series as a gift for my 18 year old niece. She encouraged me to read them too and I enjoyed the first three books. While I can understand the dismay some feel over Bella's dependence I enjoyed the lack of foul language and the 'family sticks together' theme.

But this book was just bad. I would have rather she had stopped after the wedding. Half vampire baby? ugh. So it's ok for the vamps to be around her when she is menstruating (Alice packs tampons for honeymoon) but god forbid she cuts her finger
Lets solve the Jacob triangle by having him imprint.. their baby. Come on that's pathetic. He cannot handle the issue with Bella giving up her humanity for Edward, so let's force him on her half human half vamp baby and everything is ok. Leah Clearwater would have been a better resolution, or heck Jessica or Angela.
Bah, the rest is just as convoluted. There were some nice points, but the final resolution was just.. boring.

I liked the third book more, but Breaking Dawn was definitely fun to read with a good amount of excitement.
Somewhat disappointing...

Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed this series. However, I was never as deeply into it as many are. For some reason, especially in the first novel, I found the dialogue tedious and cheesy, the characters a little too clichè, and the overall story just a little uninteresting, even though I am a lover of vampire novels. However, I decided to give these books a decent try, and thoroughly began to enjoy them in the second and third novels, when the characters had some excellent development, and the plot became more exciting. However, this book did not finish the series well. Since I don't want to be a spoiler, let me just say that the ending was FAR too syrupy. Everything ended PERFECTLY. Now, in order to make a good book, there has to be sacrifice of some kind - not just making everyone happy because it's nice. A few tears are what make a book memorable. These books had potential, but unfortunately I don't feel it was lived up to.
